Mountain Trek Explorer Scheduled Departure
A great trip for trekking enthusiasts this tour encompasses the best of the Hajar Mountains. Departing fro Nizwa you enjoy Jebal Akhdar, known as Oman's Grand Canyon for its stunning scenery and Jebal Shams, at 3000 metres Oman's highest mountain. Accommodation is at the camp at the top of Jebal Shams and in a hotel in Nizwa.
Day One:
We depart Muscat and journey through the Hajar mountain range on one of Oman’s best off-road trails. There are plenty of places to stop and admire the scenery en route. Once through the mountains we head to the summit of Jebal Shams. At some 3,000m it is Oman’s highest peak and has some of the most breathtaking views from the top. Enjoy a late afternoon stroll around the rim of the canyon before settling down in the Jebal Shams Camp.
Day Two:
Early risers can enjoy a picturesque walk to the abandoned village of As Sab on the top of the mountain. This walk is regarded as one of the most beautiful in Oman. On your return to the camp we have an early lunch and then have a short drive to our next walking location at Misfah al Breen. The walk takes us through the canyon and circumnavigates the massif, passing through two mountain hamlets before returning back to the date palm groves. Tonight we relax in the comfort of a 4* hotel in Nizwa.
Day Three:
After breakfast this morning we drive to the deserted village of Birkat Al Mawz and onto Jebal Akhdar. This morning’s trek takes us through Ar Rus and it is an excellent route heading west to the Jebal Akhdar ridge line. There is lots of potential for exploration and adventure as there is no pre-determined trail and your guide will discuss the most suitable route for you. The route takes about four and a half hours, and after lunch we head back to Muscat.
