Day One:
We pick you up in the morning and enjoy a Muscat city tour. The tour begins at Muttrah Port where we take a stroll along its corniche and visit the historic Muttrah Souk, where we can haggle with market traders and pick up souvenirs and antiques. A short drive from Muttrah is Muscat where we can view His Majesty’s Al Alam Palace before we proceed to the magnificent Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the fourth largest mosque in the world and with the world's largest chandelier and hand-woven carpet. We then head south into the Wahiba Sands desert, stopping en route for lunch. We take a short trip across the sand dunes to the 5* Desert Nights Resort where we unwind and have the best seat in the house to view the magnificent sunset over the undulating desert dunes.
Day Two:
We break camp this morning and head south to the spectacular Khaluf Bay , where the dunes of the desert meet the stunning beaches of this coastline. Lunch will be served in the camp and the afternoon is free to relax in this beautiful area.
Day Three:
There is an opportunity for those looking to see more of the country to go off to explore Masirah Island, or partake in some bird watching amongst the marshland in the Bay of Mahawt with the experienced guides. The group can choose different options and picnic lunches will be provided. There is also an option to remain in the camp and relax in its stunning location on the beach.
Day Four:
We leave the camp and head south, with the ocean to the left and a plateau to the right. It is not uncommon to see gazelle grazing on the plateau, it is a little rarer to see an Arabian Oryx in this area but it is not impossible. This coastal journey is full of wildlife and small fishing villages. We arrive at our camp, which is located in one of the many secluded bays at Ras Madrakah, late afternoon and sundowners will be served on the beach.
Day Five:
We continue driving down the coastal track as we head towards Wadi Shuwaymiah. The scenery en route through the many villages is stunning and we will stop in one for lunch. We arrive at our camp mid afternoon and relax in this serene location.
Day Six:
After breakfast we head out to the oilfields of Marmul, and then onto Thumrayt which is a small village built around one of Oman’s military bases. We drive through the Dhofar mountains to arrive in the town of Salalah, the capital of the Dhofar region.
